Climbing Rope- Choosing the Best for Your Specific Needs
A climbing rope comes in wide array of options today to suit the requirements of its users especially in for arborists and hobbyists. So how can you find the best options that provide you safety, comfort as well as save your money? Follow the guideline that is provided in this article and you can never go wrong.
Go for ones with UIAA rating system:
While buying ropes for work or play, it is always necessary that you buy ones that abide by UIAA rating system. This system ensures that the climbing rope reacts properly in different kinds of situations for example whether it will be able to sustain during falls etc. It takes into consideration such factors as rope stiffness, sheath slippage and rope stretch.
Rope strength:
This is one of the most important factors while determining to get a rope for your diverse needs. There are different rope varieties available in the market today. There are single, half and twin ropes that are used for specific purposes. While a single climbing rope is used alone, the other two are used as a pair in parallel. Both have their advantages and disadvantages and are hence their characteristics are to be taken care of while selecting for your use.
Climbing rope length:
Nowadays, there are rope varieties that are not only strong but are light weight. They are narrow and come in varying lengths to suit the needs of individual users. Most of the users would vouch for the fact that longer the rope, more advantageous it is for individual use. This is especially true in the case of mountain and rock climbers. Longer climbing rope varieties are also popular in cragging, sport climbing and top-roping regions.
Decide on static or dynamic rope variety:
Climbing ropes come in both static and dynamic variety. While the dynamic ones have the capability to stretch under pressure, the static ones are more durable. So, it is up to you to decide the variety as per your specific requirements. While dynamic climbing rope varieties are used for the purpose of climbing, the static ropes are used for rappelling, canyoning, spelunking etc.
Get climbing rope online:
There are many other factors that should be taken into account while getting climbing rope ranges. However the above mentioned factors are the most important. The huge demand for these ropes including nylon rope, 8 plait ropes has facilitated users to get them online. These as well as dock line ropes are competitively priced and the best thing is that you can get them from the comforts for your home with just the click of your mouse.

Static or Dynamic Rope for kids? Or climbing harness?
I have a five-year old boy, rather tall for his age and about 48lbs. I want to start taking him hiking even along trails around waterfalls and small cliffsides, my worry is that he's VERY active has taken climbing lessons so I am worried he might go flying off a ledge.
My question then, I would like to somehow attach him to me via rope so that if he flies off, then I can hold his weight. I'm 5'5", 180lbs; so, should I buy two climbing harnesses and simply attach rope between us? Or should I rig some sort of harness made out of static or dynamic rope and then attach that to my own harness?
My recommendation is to buy a child size harness for your son. The harness will be useful for climbing at the gym, local crag or potentially dangerous hiking/mountaineering. A good harness is invaluable for these endeavors. As far as ropes go, dynamic is the only way to go if you are lead climbing and expecting to take falls. Static ropes are nice for top roping and rappelling but not for absorbing the energy of a fall. If your son is interested in climbing I say go for it, who knows, he might be the next Chris Sharma. Go have fun and consult your local experts at the climbing gym for more info.
